Registration:
Students are required to complete their registration formalities for enrollment in the coming trimester. Without registration no student will be allowed to attend the classes and it will be considered that the student is absent from the trimester. Every student must register in-person. The Admission Office will notify newly accepted students about the time and place of their registration. Students are responsible for fulfilling all requirements of the degree program in which they have been admitted. They should consult their advisors in planning their course schedules and be familiar with UIU policies and procedures related to registration and graduation requirements for their degrees. Registration is incomplete until all fees are paid.
A student can not register after the scheduled date of registration mentioned in the academic calendar except by special permission of the Dean of Faculties. To avoid late fees students must register during the scheduled registration period.
Registration for any session of the University is contingent upon eligibility for registration. Thus advance registration, including the payment of tuition and fees, are considered invalid if the student is later declared to be ineligible to register due to scholastic reasons. Detailed information about dates and procedures for advice and registration are shown in each semesters academic calendar of the University, which is available in the Registrars Office of UIU.
Students should also be familiar with the following general points about Registration:
Registration for a semester is conducted under an academic calendar.
Registration starts a week before the start of classes and late registration continues till the second week of classes.
Mere attendance does not mean registration in a class, nor will attendance in a class for which a student is not registered be a basis for asking that a program change be approved permitting registration in that class. Students should complete the registration process before classes begin.
Enrollment changes to courses can only be made through the processing of an official registration form.
After the second week of the semester, the Office of Admissions and Records will process the Official Registration form.
Tuition and fees are payable in advance or by installments with prior approval. A student shall not be enrolled or enrollment shall be officially deferred until at least the first installment of tuition and fees have been paid.
Students can not drop a course merely by stopping attendance.
Students, who after advising fail to pay their tuition and other fees, will have to pay a fine of 50 percent of the total fees charged for the semester.
Late Registration:
A student who seeks to register after the first day of the semester must have the permission of the Dean of Faculties. Those students who are given permission to register late must pay a late registration fee.
Students may add courses only within the date mentioned in the Academic Calendar, if space is available, with the approval of their academic advisors.
The last day for dropping a course with and without a record entry (i.e., W) is mentioned in the semester academic calendar.
Withdrawal and Refunds:
Applications for withdrawal from the University or from a course, after the registration period is over, must be made in writing to the Department Chair or Program Director. Notification to an instructor is not adequate. In case of authorized withdrawals and changes in schedule/registration (adds and drops) tuition will be adjusted as follows:
Through the last business day prior to the first day of classes: 100% refund.
Through the first week of classes: 70% refund.
Through the second and third week of classes: 50% refund.
After three weeks of classes: No refund.
No adjustment is authorized for Admission or other assessed fees. In case of death of a student, adjustments will be made any time during the semester as authorized.
Withdrawal as a result of serious illness or disabling accident will be subject to review by the University for possible variation from the policy described above. No adjustment will be made for a student who is facing academic difficulties, or who is suspended, dismissed or expelled for breach of the code of conduct.
Advisement:
All students in the undergraduate and graduate programs will receive advisement prior to registration for each trimester. The program advisor will declare courses of different batches and programs before registration and advice students for their convenience. It is the responsibility of each student to comply with degree requirements and general regulations of registration.
Course Loads:
The university mainly offers courses considering the ability of students and the duration of respective programs. If a student wants to take any course/courses beyond offered courses by the office for him, he/she is to give the evidence of the ability to complete such extra course/courses. Again if any student wants to take fewer courses from the offered courses, he/she is to apply to the office/program adviser mentioning the cause of inability.
Prerequisite Courses:
If any course has prerequisite course(s), every student has to complete that course(s) before taking the course. Without the completion of the prerequisite course(s), students will not be allowed to take the course any way.
Registration Procedures:
Form will be available at the registration office.
Completed registration form must be submitted at the office with the payment receipt as a proof that 100% of the registered course fee incurred by registration has already been paid to the university.
No registration form will be received without payment receipt.
Proficiency in English:
To the modern world, proficiency in English is essential. So every student of UIU must have proficiency in English. Taking this into account, UIU offers several English courses for its students to create in them a sound working and technical knowledge of English and thus enable them to prepare themselves competent for national and international job markets.
UIU offers some foundation courses of English for the students who are weak in English to increase their proficiency and they are supposed to pay for these courses.
Abandoning courses:
Grades F will be recorded for students who have not fulfilled academic obligations and have not obtained a grade, and for students who abandon their courses without officially withdrawing form a course.
Academic Probation:
Students of undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate or any other academic and professional programs with a GPA less than 2.0 will be placed under probation. Students on probation are allowed a maximum of three semesters to raise their GPA to 2.00. Students who fail to achieve a GPA of 2.00 within three semesters are dismissed from the University. If a student fails to attend any class test, midterm or final examination, he/she will get a zero in the particular class test, midterm or final examination. A student securing grade F in any course will required to repeat that course by paying full course fee. Repeating a course implies that the student has to attend all the classes, class tests, midterm and final examination as a regular student. Repetition of a course would be allowed maximum of three times. If any student fails to improve the grade within the stipulated times, he/she will not be allowed to take any further course(s) to continue until he/she improves the grade.
Readmission from academic dismissal:
After three academic years students who have been dismissed from the University may apply for readmission. Such applications should include documented evidence that the petitioners have taken steps to improve their academic performance such as further studies at academies or other institutions or taken employment providing them experience and responsibilities which has enhanced their ability to undertake academic endeavors. United International University will provide academic counseling during this period if requested.
Academic Fresh Start:
United International University policy does not allow students to establish a new academic record. Students readmitted into the University or reinstated into a program start with the same record in the same state as when they were dismissed or when they left. Thus, a student with a GPA of less that 2.0 at UIU will be put on probation from the date of readmission or reinstatement. The rules of academic probation, suspension, and dismissal are applicable to all students.
Change of degree program:
Students seeking to change their degree program must submit a written request to the head of the department. Upon recommendation of the head of the academic department to which the student intends to change, the office of the Registrar shall make the necessary changes to a students record.
Careful consideration of program/major changes should be undertaken by students who are in their junior or senior years, as requirements for the new major may require additional credits and extend the time for completion of their degree.
